Matching Setting with Style – Event Design and Décor Ideas for Resorts in Los Cabos
All great event designs begin with setting and venue. Because in order to create a certain look, and to suggest a certain mood–elegant and celebratory, say–you must first take into account where you are in the world. Event design style in New York or London, after all, is very different from that in always sunny Los Cabos.
Style must be matched to setting, in other words, and that’s where we come in. We being Cabo Linens, Things & More, the premier design and décor company in Los Cabos. At CLTM, we have years of experience helping our clients realize their vision of a perfect destination event design, be it for a wedding, birthday, dinner party or other gathering. More specifically, we help them realize their vision by creating one-of-a-kind design and décor for their chosen venue, and then bring the design scheme magically to life for the big day.
We specialize in event design and décor, but those descriptors actually cover a lot of ground, from flower arrangements and rental furnishings to lighting and signage.
By popular demand in recent months, we’ve been spotlighting a variety of local venues from a design perspective. Last month, for instance, we looked at some of the event design and décor possibilities offered by luxury villas. This month we’re turning our attention to luxury resorts in Los Cabos.
There has been a tremendous amount of growth in Los Cabs in recent years, meaning not only are there more resorts than ever, there are more luxury properties from benchmark hospitality brands and spectacular event venues than ever.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the “hot” design and décor ideas for resorts in Los Cabos in 2020.
Beachfront Luxury Resorts in Los Cabos
If you read our blog last month, then you know that two of the primary attractions of villas as event venues are their breathtaking (often elevated hillside) ocean views, and their complete and total privacy. For the vast majority of Los Cabos resorts, meanwhile, the primary attraction is beachfront access.
That’s not the only attraction. Not by a long shot. Unlike villas, for instance, which were built for the use of individual owners, resorts were built with special events in mind. Thus, they typically showcase a wide variety of dedicated event spaces, from expansive terraces to ballrooms and banquet halls.
What that means is that resorts can not only handle a wide variety of events, they have the ability to accommodate multiple scene shifts. So for a destination wedding, for example, the ceremony might be held on the beach, with a transition to a terrace reception. Related events like welcome parties or rehearsal dinners can also have their own dedicated event spaces.
From a design perspective, this means you are not beholden to a single style. As you can see from the accompanying photos, rustic beachfront weddings are perennially popular in Los Cabos, with flower woven altars that frame couples and their officiant against a picturesque Pacific Ocean or Sea of Cortez backdrop. There are many ways to personalize, or customize a design for beachfront ceremonies, from endless varieties of guest chairs to creative signage (for example, “a leave shoes here” sign for the shoe valet at barefoot beachfront nuptials).
For many couples, the idea of shifting from a rustic ceremony to an elegant reception appeals, although you can just as easily stay on the beach for the reception. Baja style events that incorporate regional accents and architectural elements (think palo de arco pergolas or palapas) are popular for destination weddings, as well as dinner and birthday parties, and even corporate events. Boho chic also remains in fashion for beachfront wedding receptions.
Terraces, which are inevitably the main event space at villa venues, are often even more expansive at resorts, and can be completely transformed in terms of design and décor. Graceful tablescapes, plush lounge areas, and romantic lighting can quickly shift a look and mood from beachfront rustic to classical elegance…with the same fresh breezes and ocean views available steps away on the beach.
As you can see in our photos, most Los Cabos resorts also maintain large indoor event spaces–be they ballrooms or banquet halls–available for receptions or other events. Best of all, many transition onto terraces or feature large picture windows that enable indoor creature comforts and chic design possibilities without losing the views and beachfront ambiance associated with Los Cabos.
Boutique Resorts in Los Cabos
For all the high-profile hospitality brands with properties in Los Cabos, cape cities Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo are also home to intimate, and independent, boutique hotels.
When we say boutique, what we’re really talking about are properties with under 100 rooms. Places where luxury amenities may exist, but where the guiding principle is “one-of-a-kind” experiences.
There are boutique “resorts in Los Cabos” that are surfing themed, that have underground recording studios, or feature paintings from local artists in every room. Ultimately though, the theme or “hook” of a boutique resort is not as important as the fact that it’s a cool destination space unlike any other…and provides the metaphorical “canvas” for a creative design and altogether unique and utterly unforgettable destination event experience.
Isn’t that why people choose Los Cabos in the first place?
