Canadian Thanksgiving Events in Cabo San Lucas
Canadian Thanksgiving is very much like the U.S. version of the holiday in most respects. Both are primarily harvest festivals, giving thanks for the bounty of the season. Both feature similar dinner items, traditional staples like turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. The main difference is one of timing. U.S. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November; Canadian Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October.
Canadian Thanksgiving is coming sooner, in other words, but for Americans considering their own destination Turkey Day dinner events in Cabo, the same design and décor themes can be used almost interchangeably.
Hues of brown, orange, gold and green–the color spectrum of turning leaves–dominate the autumn design palette, with fresh seasonal vegetables like pumpkins, gourds and squash oft used as decorative table top accents. Fresh flowers, too, are arranged to reflect this harvest time aesthetic, typically highlighted by seasonal bloomers like roses, dahlias, lilies and chrysanthemums.
Furnishings and place settings, by contrast, are much more dependent upon the chosen event setting. For dinners on one of Los Cabos’ beautiful golden sand beaches, or on an al fresco terrace with sweeping ocean views, a rustic boho chic or casual elegance are the preferred design styles. Beachfront wooden tables with colorful throw pillow lined benches, for example, or sleek and stylish gold and white design patterns contrasted visually against horizon stretching panoramas of azure sea.
Alternatively, for events in upscale resort based banquet halls or ballrooms, a more formally elegant design scheme is indicated. This could mean place settings showcasing polished silver and gold-edged chargers and glassware, silk table runners, gilt framed signs and matching candlesticks, and lounge areas with divans and davenports upholstered in plush velvety fabrics.
The choice is ultimately yours, dependent upon the guest list and budget, as well as your own personality and design aesthetic.
Halloween Events in Cabo San Lucas
Ready for ghostly atmosphere, creative costumes, and perhaps a bit of candy for the kids? Trust us, it’s even better with a touch of Cabo, from beachfront fire pits and barbecues for grilling party snacks to papeles picados strung overhead for festive Mexican flavor.
Costumes are of course the de rigeur theme for Halloween events in Cabo (and elsewhere), however there are plenty of other options for those who don’t want to pack or shop for a one-off ensemble. Dinner or birthday parties with ghoulish Halloween themed menus and haunted house décor are one example, but the list is as numerous as the ingredients in a witch’s brew, and limited only by one’s imagination.
From pumpkin carved “jack-o’-lanterns” to sinister hand-painted signs, there are myriad creative ways to carry through a design theme for Halloween “events in Cabo”.
Day of the Dead Events in Cabo San Lucas
Día de Muerto, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated throughout the Spanish speaking world. But nowhere is this holiday of remembrance–honored contemporaneous to the Catholic commemoration of All Souls’ Day–observed with more eye-catching iconography and instantly recognizable cultural traditions as it is in Mexico.
Think of the Catrina doll, for instance. Born as a Mexican Revolution era cartoon from famed artist Jorge Guadalupe Posada this skeletal female figure dressed in elegant finery has become almost indelibly associated with Day of the Dead remembrances. The word remembrance is important insomuch as this holiday remembers deceased friends and family, but it is by no means a somber occasion. Rather, it’s a day to remember loved ones with joy, and to celebrate the fact that their memory lives on among us.
This idea is beautifully expressed in the ofrenda, a handmade altar adorned with things like photos of lost loved ones, some of their favorite food and drinks, as well as traditional holiday appropriate items like Aztec marigolds, candied sugar skulls, papeles picados (stylized paper cutouts), and a special Day of the Dead bread called pan de muerto.
For the purposes of Cabo events, all of these iconic items can be used to imbue the spirit of the holiday into a design scheme, giving a dinner party or other special event a distinctive and unmistakably Mexican look, as well as an added depth of meaning. Imagine, for example, a family dinner or wedding reception where all the people who matter in your life are gathered around you, as well as photos or family heirlooms representing all the others who helped you to reach this very special moment.
