The story of The Resort dates back to the early 1970s, when a Mexico City born architect named Manuel Díaz Rivera made one of the most prescient real estate purchases of all time: buying 330 acres of hillside property that fronted two beaches and looked out upon two major bodies of water–the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortés–at a time when few people had even heard of Cabo San Lucas.
Parcels of this land now sell for a small fortune, but Díaz Rivera was also prescient enough to set aside 24 prime acres for a future hotel property, a foreshadowing that finally came to fruition in 2009 when The Resort at Pedregal opened its doors. It has been ranked as one of the best and most romantic resorts in the world ever since.
Primary Ceremony & Reception Sites
One could be forgiven for thinking The Resort at Pedregal was built specifically with wedding and events in mind, so perfectly do many of its spaces work within this context.
Typically, there are three primary spaces used for ceremonies, and four for receptions, although creative use may also be made of spectacular features like the entrance tunnel, dynamited through sheer granite and now outfitted with luxurious fittings like chandeliers, with an alcove specially carved out for romantic private dinners for two.
But for most interested in the property as a “Cabo wedding venue”, potential ceremony sites are limited to the outdoor lobby, the pool terrace and beach. Each has its virtues. The stunning lobby, for example, is bisected by a long decorative pool, with ocean views framed by a traditional handcrafted palo de arco pergola. From 50 to 150 guests can gather here, making it more capacious than the pool terrace, although the latter does offer the breathtaking visual of a bride and groom pledging their eternal love between infinity pool and seemingly infinite ocean. The beach, meanwhile, is a favored site for more casual, even barefoot-friendly affairs. Bounded by sun, sand and sea, with surf lapping the shore cinematically in the background, it’s the perfect spot for a ceremony featuring handwritten vows and a happily ever after sunset celebration.
Reception options, by contrast, take advantage of both natural splendor of the resort and its spectacular onsite restaurant facilities. There’s El Farallón, for instance, which features dinner tables set on a cliffside precipice above crashing waves, with an adjoining Champagne Terrace that seems to have been custom crafted with the cocktail hour in mind. Signature onsite restaurant Manuel’s offers more festive Mexican ambiance, while the Beach Club boasts panoramic ocean views from an enchantingly airy setting, its shade-giving pergola festooned with chandeliers and hanging lanterns. Each of these three sites can accommodate 100 to 120 guests.
For more intimate receptions at your chosen Cabo wedding venue, there is La Palapa, which can host up to 30 beneath its artisanal palm-thatched roof. Nearby fire pits and tiki torches only add to its rustic beachfront charm.
